For the 2004 presidential election, Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., John Fogerty and other classic-rockers staged the Vote For Change Tour, including a concert in St. Paul. This fall, the hip-hop stalwarts the Beastie Boys will undertake the Get Out and Vote '08 Tour, which will visit St. Paul's Roy Wilkins Auditorium on Nov. 1.
Also performing that night will be eclectic rocker Ben Harper and Tenacious D, the comedy-rock duo starring Jack Black.
"We are going to do a few shows in hopes that we can remind people to vote," the Beastie Boys said in a statement. "This election is too important, too much is at stake to stay at home. We hope that you can come out, have a nice night, dance, sing, get your freak on, and then wake up the next morning and get everyone that you possibly can to get out and vote."
They added: "We are very excited about [Barack] Obama. Hope you all feel the same."
Similarly, the Vote for Change Tour in 2004 supported the Democratic candidate John Kerry.
Springsteen, Billy Joel, the Grateful Dead and others have done individual shows this fall on behalf of the Obama ticket. The Beastie Boys have announced three shows thus far and plan others in battleground states. Joining them at other cities will be Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson or Santogold. Ticket, priced at $37.50, will go on sale Oct. 17 at Ticketmaster outlets.

Dancer Needed for 2009
We need a dancer to augment Tyler's keyboarding skills and Bill's abundant vocal assets. Don't bother trying out unless you as good as the guy in this video clip of the Christian supergroup, The Way. The solo at 1:55 is the greatest.

Macbeth
There are two pay-what-you-can nights, an opening night gala and a post-show Halloween party on 10/31 if that strikes your fancy.
Hope to see you there!

Summer is almost over and I'm sad. It means a close end to comfortable leisure biking time. This kick ass (Gordie term) video from Doomtree will likely help me get through the winter.

Sabotage (Part 1) - 1998
Coach's brother is in this. It was filmed in Rochester, MN in October of 1998. It was originally meant as a high school anti-smoking video, which turned into a loving homage to the greatest music video of all time, Beastie Boy's Sabotage.

Bulldog Down
Maya got worked by a softball that hit her in the collarneckbone on an errant throw as part of a double play attempt. This was the scariest thing I had ever seen in my five years as player/coach. With the grace of Jeebus she is just now regaining her ability to walk and speak without a lisp. My greatest regret as Coach is that I didn't have whiskey in the first aid kit to kill the pain.
On a positive note, ringers Jill and Amy came in to help continue the hotness . . . Our our winning streak. We made the win over 1st place Capella University (13-6) feel easy thanks to smart fielding and timely hitting. This year we have guaranteed a winning record plus third place in the league. This may not sound like a lot but it is considering that we didn't even have a white board (or Mel Jensen's glove) five years ago.
Side Note
Meg is back with hits that landed her on second and third bases the past few games.
Sad Note
Tomorrow is the last game of the season.
Super Note
Pinata party at Coach's this Saturday.
Saucy Note
The Punchy Awards back at Buca this year? I say yes. You say?
